Opening hours: 01.04.2026 - 01.11.2026
Experience camping on one of Denmark’s most unique islands
If you are looking for a camping holiday surrounded by extraordinary nature, fresh sea air and peaceful surroundings, Mandø Camping offers a truly different experience. Located on the small island of Mandø, around 20 kilometres from Ribe in South West Jutland, the campsite places you right in the middle of the UNESCO-listed Wadden Sea National Park. Here, you can slow down, enjoy wide open landscapes and experience one of Denmark’s most remarkable natural environments.
Mandø Camping is a cosy two-star campsite where you can stay with your own caravan or tent. If you prefer extra comfort, the site also offers cabins for up to five people and shelters for up to four guests. Facilities include toilets and family bathrooms, kitchen facilities, a shared TV lounge and free Wi-Fi, giving you everything you need for a comfortable stay while remaining close to nature.
Discover the unique nature of Mandø
Mandø is a destination unlike anywhere else in Denmark. The island lies in the centre of the Wadden Sea National Park, which forms a part of the UNESCO World Heritage site. It is one of the world's most important areas for migratory birds, making it an attractive destination for birdwatchers and nature lovers throughout the year.
The island is also certified as a Dark Sky Park. Thanks to the limited light pollution, clear evenings reveal an impressive night sky filled with stars. During your visit, you can also explore the Mandø Nature Collection, where exhibitions focus on the island’s nature, birdlife and cultural heritage.
Whether you enjoy walking, cycling, photography or simply taking in peaceful surroundings, Mandø offers a landscape where the rhythm of nature sets the pace.
An island with a strong community
In 2026, Mandø was named Island of the Year in Denmark. The award recognises Danish islands that demonstrate strong community spirit, local engagement and positive development. According to the jury, Mandø stands out because of its active local community, including many young residents. Throughout the year, traditions such as community celebrations, beach clean-ups, harvest festivals, shared dinners, singing evenings and other local activities bring residents and visitors together.
This welcoming atmosphere helps create an authentic island experience where visitors can enjoy both tranquillity and genuine local hospitality.
Getting to Mandø Camping
Part of Mandø’s appeal is the journey itself. The island is the only Danish island that can only be reached at low tide. You can drive across the Låningsvejen causeway in your own car when the tide allows or travel by the seasonal tractor bus during the summer months. Because the road is flooded twice a day, it is important to check the tide schedule before travelling. According to the campsite information, driving is possible if the water level does not exceed 50 centimetres [19.69 in].
This special access makes every visit feel like an adventure while helping preserve the island’s distinctive character and peaceful atmosphere.
Plan your camping holiday on Mandø
Mandø Camping is an ideal base for discovering the remarkable landscapes of the Wadden Sea while staying within easy reach of Ribe, Denmark’s oldest town.
