On the island of Funen (Fyn), the landscape, towns and villages form a synthesis. In the middle of it lies the town of Odense, with Svendborg and Faaborg in the south, and not forgetting Nyborg, Middelfart, Kerteminde and Assens.
Here you will come across idyllic little villages, each with its own pond, straw-thatched half-timbered houses, hollyhocks and old orchards - none of these are unusual on this island. The landscape here is a treasure chest of well-preserved legacies from the past.
And then there are the country houses, as numerous as they are charming! Nowhere else in Denmark do they cluster so thickly as on the islands of Funen and nearby Langeland and Ærø. In fact, there are no fewer than 123 of them. You might like to visit Grimmerhus, Egeskov Castle, Valdemar Castle, Tranekær Castle or Skovgaards Gods.
